The collection consists of papers of Emily Gordy Dolvin from 1941-1985. Emily Dolvin files (n.d.) include correspondence, a manuscript on Carter family campaigning, and audio cassettes. Tom Gordy files (1941-1944) consist of diaries kept by Tom Gordy (brother of Emily) as a prisoner of war during World War II and a manuscript Gordy wrote about the experience. Jimmy Carter files (1970-1985) contain notes, correspondence, newspaper clippings, gubernatorial and presidential campaign literature, invitations, and photographs covering Carter's 1970 gubernatorial campaign as well as his 1976 and 1980 presidential campaigns. These materials reflect Dolvin's involvement as campaign volunteer coordinator and the vigorous schedule of Carter campaign workers.

Emily Gordy Dolvin was born in Richland, Georgia in 1912. She grew up in Richland, about twenty miles east of Plains, Georgia, and graduated from high school in Columbus, Georgia in 1930. She became a school teacher until she married William Jasper Dolvin, who was a school principal and insurance agent. She helped her husband for years in the insurance office. In 1966 she began political activity for her nephew, Jimmy Carter, and soon became known as "Jimmy Carter's Aunt Sissy." She served as st...
